Upper and Middle Taylor River Rafting
Upper Taylor Extender
Rated Class III Whitewater, our most popular trip and the local’s favorite, the Extender includes the Upper Taylor and the Middle Taylor. The Taylor River is a classic high alpine river with majestic canyon walls on either side and soaring pine trees lining the canyon.
About 3 hours rafting on the water, you’ll tackle Initiation Rapid at the beginning, and Spit The Winkle in the middle canyon. A quick half hour drive from either Crested Butte or Gunnison, you will meet at our Boathouse in Taylor Canyon and we’ll take care of the quick and easy shuttle to the river from there. This is the closest consistent whitewater rafting from the Montrose area as well.
We recommend that you bring a lunch with you if you are on the morning trip. Taylor Canyon is a beautiful place to stop and smell the roses while fueling up for your next adventure. We can provide refrigeration for you while you are on the river, or even loan you a cooler. We will fill you in on the best riverside lunch spot if you ask! Bring your fishing gear!
